The statements of Manny and Roach for MMA is a proof how MMA is a superior combat sport to boxing?

Manny on MMA (number 1 boxer in the world today)

“It's too violent for me but it's a sport that should be recognized,” Pacquiao said during an ESPN.com chat to promote the bout. “It's a great sport but not the sport for me.”

Roach on MMA

I think they’re using James as a way to say MMA fighters are better than boxers,” he said. “If he fights a quality ground guy, once he goes to the ground he’s gonna get killed. But if a guy chooses to stand up with James, James is gonna destroy him. That’s why they call him ‘Lights Out.’ I really don’t think there’s one fighter in MMA that could stand with James.”

I wanna make a comment on Roach's claim since many boxing fans would agree with him.

I know some people on this forum who have serve in the military like i have as well and i guess we all have take some basic training and stuff!

So you are in a war or a battle and you see the enemy waiting for you, both are unarmed and you have to fight him to death let's say!You will say what?

';Hey if you are a real man you have to stand and trade punches with me,if you take me to the ground,or you use kicks, elbows, grappling etc you are a punk';? (LMAO)

Boxing the superior combat sport????Far from it i think! The statements of Manny and Roach for MMA is a proof how MMA is a superior combat sport to boxing?
my claim is that yes of course MMA is a 'superior fighting style' i guess if thats what your into because you can do anything, but the fact is boxing has the superior athletes all over the globe.

besides its a sport knight my friend. a swift kick to the balls and a couple of fingers to the eyes will overpower all jiu jitsu and muy thai training in a life or death situationThe statements of Manny and Roach for MMA is a proof how MMA is a superior combat sport to boxing?
I like both sport. MMA fighters have more diversity in their fighting techniques. Boxing is more of a tradition and an exhibition of artwork. Boxing has more rules and promotes more civility whereas MMA may be reflected as an old school gladiator sport. I take nothing from both sports, I am a fan of both.
So you believe that watching two sweaty dudes dry hump each other is exciting?

Doesn't surprise me you'd be into that sorta thing!
Fedor Emelianenko will kill Toney
They are sports, not life or death struggles. MMA has rules, some of which are basic and have been around since its inception - like no eye-gouging or fishhooks...those are things that occur when you put your face too close to someones and there aren't rules to stop them from really doing damage to unprotected areas.

I'm not disagreeing with you totally. But I think there is something to be said for taking one skill and simply pitting it against someone elses, like most other sports - boxing vs. boxing, wrestling v wrestling, even non combat sports. If you're getting beat by a superior boxer in a boxing match, you can't just try to tackle them, the same in basketball, you can't just start playing football in the middle because you can't keep up.

I also think that it is intersting to note that if you take the 5 divisions in the UFC, 3 out of 5 champs use tons of ';striking'; to win. Machida, Silva and BJ - I know that they all have excellent abilities in other areas of the sport, but BJ and Silva both train with pro boxing guys, and they are dominating their divisions now even against this new generation of ';more well-rounded guys.'; BJ and Silva have been around for a very long time, and especially Penn, for all his BJJ skills, has basically dominated guys with feights, a jab and basic 2-3 punch combinations. Silva is obviously well rounded too, but in the past few years of his domination he looks more and more like an unorthodox boxer than a muy thai killer - for me, his recent KO of Griffin was more a testament to the fact that precision punching can be more potent than any array of ';well rounded'; skills.

- I absolutely know what you mean, in a real fight you wouldn't just limit to boxing. What I'm saying is that its sport not real life or death, and that boxing in this form still appears to be very effective in MMA based on what a lot of top guys are doing.
Yeah mma slams boxing. MMA fighters can oustrike boxers if they are kickboxers or karate fighters. boxers have hard time fighting muay-thai fight on thier feet especially. leg kicks and body kicks are extremely effective against boxers and wrestlers almost all the time smashes boxers.

@Peter H. Silva and BJ Penn also train very hard on thier kickboxing so that does not say much and plus BJ Penn and Anderson Silva are black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Both are very dangerous striking and very dangerous on the ground. Silva submitted Travis Lutter who was an national BJJ Champion and BJ Penn can submit anyone.
